Ngige denies collapsing at the National Assembly, says he is not even in Nigeria

2015 polls: Army panel wants two officers sacked

The Nigerian Army Panel on the review of the allegations of professional misconduct against soldiers who participated in the last general elections has submitted its report indicting some officers and recommending them for various degrees of sanctions.

The Board led by the General Officer, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, said in an Army Headquarters, statement on Monday that the recommendations of the panel would be of assistance to the Army and the nation in the future.

He said in the statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, that two officers were recommended for compulsory retirement, one for prosecution for receiving money, and three others were recommended to lose their command.

The Oyebade panel also recommended that 15 officers be placed under surveillance.

He said that nine officers were referred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation because of allegations made against them.

According to him, the board had made far-reaching recommendations that would assist the Nigerian Army and the nation in the future.

He further added that two officers were recommended for compulsory retirement from the Nigerian Army, three were to lose their command and one was recommended for prosecution for collecting financial gratification.

“Other recommendations include placing 15 officers on watch list, nine officers were to be further investigated by the EFCC over allegations levelled against them.

“While six officers were to face an audit committee and 62 officers (mostly of the rank of Majors and below) were to be given Letters of Displeasure and to appear before their respective General Officers Commanding for counseling,” the statement read in part.

The panel’s chairman said that 23 officers, over 100 soldiers and 62 civilians appeared before the panel.

The statement quoted the COAS, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, as having commended the board for doing a thorough job devoid of influence from any quarters.

Buratai assured the panel members that their report would be reviewed in line with the Nigerian Army Legal and Administrative procedures.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Majiya, said this on Monday in Kano while briefing newsmen on the arrest of nine suspected drug traffickers.
